Dear friends of the United Nations World Data Forum,
We are pleased to reconfirm that the United Nations World Data Forum will take place this year in a hybrid format. For the first time, the third edition of the United Nations World Data Forum (UNWDF) will take place from Sunday, 3 October to Wednesday, 6 October 2021 at the Kursaal in Bern, Switzerland, and online.
To ensure that the UNWDF is a sustainable international conference respecting the principles of sustainability, the Swiss Confederation has drawn up a list of actions and recommendations, integrated into a sustainability concept. The proposed actions and recommendations that we have incorporated mainly concern the following points: carbon neutrality, mobility, supply, logistics, social aspects, economic aspects and sustainable conferences in general. You can find the concept at the following link: https://roadtobern.swiss/sustainability/
We are closely following the COVID-19 situation, both in Switzerland and in Europe, but also in the world. Currently, the situation in Switzerland and in Europe is stabilising. The situation may change at the end of summer or the start of autumn. For this reason, we are regularly publishing the most recent and important information on our website (including the public health measures in place). Currently, people vaccinated with a vaccine approved by Switzerland, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) or the WHO, can travel to Switzerland, for the UN World Data Forum, from all countries for a period of 12 months from completion of the vaccination. A negative PCR test or a rapid immunological negative test is also accepted. Regardless of the entry rules related to the public health situation, the normal procedure for issuing visas (as before the pandemic) must be followed. The programme for the United Nations World Data Forum can also be presented now: In addition to the opening and closing ceremonies, there will be seven plenary sessions and 60+ parallel sessions. Most of these will be followed both in person in Bern and in virtual format. For further information, please consult the forum programme:https://unstats.un.org/unsd/undataforum/programme/
The registration procedure for participating in person will start on 15 July and finish on 31 August 2021. Registration for virtual participation will start in Autumn 2021. More information at the following link: https://unstats.un.org/unsd/undataforum/
To take part in person in the United Nations World Data Forum in Bern, as was the case prior to the pandemic, some participants will have to request a visa to enter Switzerland. Furthermore, there are currently other travel conditions related to the public health situation (e.g. vaccination or PCR test). We will publish any changes made to the visa procedure.
The logistics page has also been updated. There you will find detailed information on the points already mentioned here and, for example, on hotel bookings.
